This was, I believe, the first adaptation I saw of the Anne books, and I loved it. This is a series of three television films, out of which I remember seeing two, L.M. Montgomery's and Fire and Dew. Like the 1985 version, I saw this when I was quite a bit younger. However, I remember absolutely loving it. It has the spirit of fun that Anne has in the books, as well as a way of capturing the beauty of nature, especially in Prince Edward Island, where they filmed, that makes it feel just right. Also, fun fact, one of the executive producers was Montgomery's granddaughter! The soundtrack is lovely, and Ella Ballentine does an amazing job of portraying Anne in a way that captures her dreams and joy in living. I really liked the casting for this, especially for Diana and Matthew. Overall, a pretty great adaptation.
